What moved the score? See sources & calculation ↗Reviewed 6 November 2026: EIA's Daily Prices page dated 6 November reports Brent spot $97.96 and WTI spot $94.05 for the 5 November close, replacing $91.84 and $91.73 for the 4 November close. Only Brent is scored; its $6.12 increase lowers the fixed importer-affordability component. The observation is one calendar day old and below the greater-than-seven-day stale threshold. EIA's spot series was used, not futures; the separately labelled futures table showed no available quote. OPEC's Annual Statistical Bulletin 2026 tables reverified worldwide proven crude reserves of 1,572.46 billion barrels at end-2025 and crude production of 74.85 million barrels/day in 2025. They remain annual statistics, not daily inventory or depletion countdowns, and do not move the score. IEA reverified its 25% projected 2035 copper deficit; it is a scenario, not a present shortage or geological exhaustion. IRENA's direct release again returned 403, so 5,149 GW of renewable capacity at end-2025 and its successful 3 November review date are retained; capacity is not generation. IMO reports 129 confirmed incidents and 25 fatalities as of 6 November, with the latest record describing a damaged vessel and one fatality on 4 November. OCHA's 5 November items concern September appeal monitoring and a personal story, while its latest full situation report remains dated 29 October and published 31 October. The UN Security Council's November programme lists meetings rather than a verified conflict or route transition. These selected records document continuing harm but do not establish a new interstate-conflict onset/end or a seven-day route closure/reopening, and the oil-price move is not counted again as a geopolitical event. FDA granted accelerated approval on 5 November to Rybrevant Faspro for a new head-and-neck-cancer indication. The medicine was already FDA-approved in 2025; this is an indication extension, not the first approval of a new therapeutic mechanism, and the open-label 102-person trial relies on response endpoints with confirmatory studies required. EMA's latest PRAC outcome remains safety-review activity, not withdrawal of a credited achievement. Google Research added a 5 November prospective five-site study of smartwatch hypertension screening in 196 participants, but describes the work as exploratory and not a standalone diagnosis or commercial device. Nature's latest selected Parkinson's records remain screening, commentary and mouse-model research; selected Crohn's listings exposed no newer qualifying result. Selected ClinicalTrials.gov records show REGENERATE-PD without posted results and inflammatory-bowel-disease studies without a qualifying result. No event was added, duplicated, deactivated or reversed; the existing valve and Voceryq events each remain active once. Slower Humanity, nature, satellites, debt, IMF and medical records retain their completed 2 November weekly review and remain contextual outside daily-v1. Coverage is selected and incomplete; baseline, thresholds, event ledger and long-term scores are unchanged.

Spot price, not futures. EIA's page dated 6 November reports the 5 November close. The observation is one calendar day old, below the greater-than-seven-day stale threshold. The higher price lowers the model's importer-affordability component; it is not a measure of overall welfare or a separate geopolitical-event credit.

Reserves / annual crude production ≈ 57.6 years, using the two 2025 OPEC figures and 365 days. This is a static ratio, not a date when oil runs out. Reserves, production, technology, prices and policy change. The ratio is context only; emergency inventories are a different measure.
Slow-moving annual data stays dated. No daily depletion is invented. Source organisations do not endorse this model. Facts are paraphrased and attributed; linked source material retains its applicable rights.

Geopolitical and supply pressure
The IEA September report estimates that more than 10 million barrels a day of Gulf output remained shut in during August. It also reports a 95-million-barrel fall in observed global oil inventories that month. These dated conditions establish context; they are not new events on the baseline day.

Research review: approvals are checked for genuinely new mechanisms
The FDA update dated 30 September extends Camzyos (mavacamten) to pediatric patients weighing at least 30 kg with symptomatic obstructive hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The drug was already approved for adults in 2022; this is not a first approval of a new mechanism for that condition. It carries a heart-failure boxed warning and restricted REMS access. The 29 September BIVIGAM/ASCENIV letters concern lot-release specifications, not new therapeutic mechanisms. No event points are added.

First size-adjustable pediatric pulmonary valve approved in the United States
FDA approved the surgically implanted Autus valve for pediatric patients with congenital pulmonary valve disease. It is designed for balloon expansion after surgery as a child grows and is the first FDA-approved valve with polymeric leaflets. The study enrolled 62 children; the first 60 had acceptable six-month blood-flow performance, but only two valves had been expanded and longer-term studies are still underway. This jurisdiction-specific first approval receives one daily-v1 research event credit; it is not evidence of a global cure or lifelong durability.

First US plasmid DNA-based immunotherapy approved for recurrent respiratory papillomatosis
FDA granted accelerated approval to Voceryq for adults with recurrent respiratory papillomatosis, making it the first plasmid DNA-based immunotherapy approved in the United States. It is designed to stimulate an immune response against HPV types 6 and 11 and is indicated to reduce surgical papilloma excisions. The open-label trial enrolled 32 adults; seven of 26 participants with at least three baseline surgeries needed no surgery during the first year. FDA requires a controlled post-approval study because the approval uses an intermediate endpoint. This jurisdiction-specific first approval receives one daily-v1 research event credit; it is not a cure or proof of durable benefit.

IMO remains at 122 confirmed incidents as of 30 October, with no newer listed incident than 23 October. OCHA's updates remain latest through the 29 October situation report published 31 October. A June Nature Medicine report of BBM-P002 in ten participants was added to the medical context as an uncontrolled phase 1 safety study, not efficacy proof or a score event. No event was duplicated, deactivated or reversed; the existing valve and Voceryq events each remain active once. The scheduled slower-record review successfully rechecked all 12 Humanity source links, selected FAO, IUCN, PIK, IRENA and IEA nature records, ESA satellite statistics, the IMF annual report, the OECD debt mechanism, the 12-country bond table and selected medical records. Humanity readings remain contextual and unscored; no global cultural-access or trust aggregate was invented. Both OPEC ASB table retrievals failed with 403 responses; retain worldwide crude reserves of 1,572.46 billion barrels at end-2025 and production of 74.85 million barrels/day in 2025 with their last successful review date of 20 October. IEA's 25% projected 2035 copper deficit was reverified unchanged. IRENA retrieval failed with 403; retain 5,149 GW and its last successful review date of 15 October. IMO now reports 119 incidents and 24 fatalities as of 21 October, including a second attack on AL DASMA on 20 October; evacuation remains paused. UN Palestine's latest item remains 20 October. These conditions do not establish a qualifying new interstate-conflict onset/end or seven-day route change. FDA's novel-drug list added Hibsago on 20 October. The medicine's first global approval occurred in Japan on 24 August, before the daily baseline, so the United States approval is not a second mechanism event. FDA biologics, device-safety and EMA update records were scanned; no qualifying reversal was verified. Nature's gene-therapy index still lists the three 20 October research papers reviewed yesterday; no new 21 October item or independently replicated Civometer milestone was verified. Google Research has no 21 October listing. No event is added, duplicated or reversed; the existing valve event remains active once. All other scoring inputs and long-term scores are unchanged. Coverage is selected and incomplete; the deeper weekly review remains dated 19 October. |

IMO retains 114 incidents and 24 fatalities as of 19 October, and evacuation remains paused. UN Palestine's 20 October report describes continuing violence and humanitarian pressures; direct DPPA and UN Security Council press-record retrievals failed. No qualifying new interstate-conflict onset/end or seven-day route change was verified. FDA novel-drug, biologics, device-safety and EMA update records were scanned. FDA's newly posted EVARREST letter extends an existing indication to pediatric age groups, not a new mechanism. Hovilpri's novelty hold remains; no qualifying reversal was verified in the selected checks. Nature's 20 October gene-therapy listings include RNA editing, tumor-targeted virus and mouse bone research, but all three linked articles failed to load; no full-paper verification or independent replication is claimed. Google Research's latest listed laboratory-agent report remains 16 October. No research event is added or repeated. The existing valve event remains active once. OPEC annual crude reserves of 1,572.46 billion barrels and production of 74.85 million barrels/day, both for 2025, were reverified unchanged. IEA's 25% projected 2035 copper deficit was reverified unchanged. IRENA retrieval failed twice; retain 5,149 GW at end-2025 and its successful 15 October review date. IMO now reports 114 incidents and 24 seafarer fatalities as of 19 October, including ST3 damage on 16 October; evacuation remains paused. UN Palestine was reviewed and direct DPPA retrieval failed. No qualifying new interstate-conflict onset/end or seven-day route change was verified; proposals and individual incidents are not new ledger events. FDA novel-drug, biologics and device-safety records and EMA updates were scanned. Hovilpri novelty remains unresolved; no qualifying new approval or reversal was verified. Selected Cambridge materials research and Google Research updates do not establish replicated completion of an existing milestone or AGI. The weekly review refreshed all 12 bond-yield quotes, ESA tracked objects and selected review metadata; debt estimates retain their April vintage because a complete October country table was not verified. Bemdaneprocel's four-year sponsor conference follow-up and IUCN's coral assessment were added as non-scoring context. Neither changes the ledger. Original scores remain unchanged. IEA retrieval failed twice and IRENA retrieval failed; retain the 25% projected 2035 copper gap and 5,149 GW end-2025 renewable capacity with their last successful review dates, 17 and 15 October respectively. IMO still reports 113 confirmed incidents and 24 fatalities as of 14 October and paused evacuations. The UN Palestine index was scanned; direct DPPA weekly retrieval failed. An 18 October news report describes a conditional Hormuz reopening proposal, not a verified implemented reopening. No qualifying new interstate-conflict onset/end or seven-day route change was verified. FDA novel-drug, biologics and device-safety records and the EMA updates index were checked. Hovilpri's novelty hold remains. A company notice hosted by FDA recalls specified Argatroban lots, not the credited valve or an entire therapeutic mechanism. No qualifying reversal was verified in these selected checks. MIT's 13 October immune-cell reprogramming report describes mouse research, not an approved human treatment. Nature's gene-therapy listing and selected NASA material were also reviewed; image publication, experimental research and terminology changes do not establish a new replicated capability or AGI. The existing valve event remains active once. No comparable scoring input or qualifying ledger event changed, so the daily score is unchanged. Coverage is selected and incomplete. |

IMO remains at 113 confirmed incidents and 24 fatalities as of 14 October, with evacuation paused. UN Palestine warns of risks to the existing Gaza ceasefire; indexed DPPA describes continuing Sudan escalation, but direct DPPA retrieval failed. No qualifying new interstate-conflict onset/end or seven-day route change was verified. FDA's novel-drug index remains latest through Hovilpri on 9 October; biologics entries are guidance. The Brytly approval detail now loads and confirms first nonprescription apraclonidine, not by itself a first therapeutic mechanism. EMA's six CHMP recommendations remain recommendations; no qualifying reversal was verified in the selected safety checks. The broader research scan covered NASA's ISS experiment activation, indexed robotic sensor-skin and optoacoustic papers, Google's laboratory-agent prototypes and Tesla's indexed official Rocket claims. Direct Nature articles failed; Tesla's direct pages exposed only footnotes or no content. Nature's gene-therapy index differed from its search snapshot. Announcements, experimental components, experiment starts and manufacturer claims receive no milestone credit. Hovilpri's novelty hold remains; the existing valve event stays active once. IMO remains at 113 confirmed incidents and 24 fatalities as of 14 October, with evacuation still paused. Indexed UN updates describe a fragile year-old Gaza ceasefire and continuing Yemen fighting, not a new qualifying interstate-conflict onset/end or verified seven-day route change; direct UN, UNSCO and DPPA retrievals failed. FDA's novel-drug list remains latest through Hovilpri on 9 October. Its Anktiva decision expands an existing bladder-cancer indication. Indexed FDA material reports Brytly approval on 16 October, but the detail page failed and first-mechanism eligibility is not established, so no credit is added. EMA's six CHMP recommendations are not final authorisations; Rasonque already had an August FDA approval. The Ibrance application withdrawal does not remove its authorised uses; its page has conflicting withdrawal dates. Selected NEJM searches found the October issue's gene-editing trial was first published in June; direct trial and AAV safety-letter pages failed, and PubMed returned no abstract. No new independently replicated capability milestone or qualifying reversal was verified. Hovilpri remains held for unresolved novelty. The existing valve event remains active once. IMO reports 113 confirmed incidents and 24 fatalities as of 14 October. Its latest listed incidents on 13 October include GFS PRIDE sinking and damage to GFS GISELLE and AL SAADIYAT. The regional page still reports disruption and a paused evacuation plan; no newly qualifying interstate-conflict onset/end or verified seven-day route change was established. Indexed UN material through 14 October was screened, but direct retrieval of the noon briefing failed. FDA's novel-drug list remains latest through Hovilpri on 9 October; biologics additions through 14 October are guidance. FDA device-safety listings exposed no reversal of the credited valve event. EMA's 15 October Opuviz update concerns an aflibercept biosimilar authorised in November 2024, not a new mechanism. Selected Nature searches surfaced early trials and older research, not an independently replicated capability milestone; the drug-development index redirected to an inaccessible identity page. This is not a claim that the drugs or approved populations are identical. FDA's atezolizumab regimen update and immune-globulin lot withdrawal, plus EMA's Ocrevus safety notice and other update listings, did not establish a qualifying new mechanism or reversal of a credited achievement. | 2026-10-02 | 34.53 | +0.720 | Reviewed 2 October 2026: EIA Brent spot fell from $115.91 to $114.82 per barrel at the 1 October close; WTI rose from $97.18 to $99.77 (context only). The FDA approved the Autus Size-Adjustable Valve on 1 October for pediatric congenital pulmonary valve disease; its first post-surgical expansion mechanism qualifies for one jurisdiction-specific first-approval event (+0.625), with 62 enrolled patients, six-month primary follow-up and only two reported expansions explicitly retained as limits. OPEC annual crude reserves (1,572.46 billion barrels), production (74.85 million barrels/day) and the IEA 25% projected 2035 copper gap were reverified unchanged. Indexed IRENA material still corroborates 5,149 GW but direct retrieval returned 403, so its earlier review date is retained. IMO remains at 88 confirmed incidents and 24 fatalities as of 30 September; no qualifying conflict or seven-day route change was established. EMA's 28 September–1 October PRAC summary reports no referral started or concluded. UN News retrieval was blocked. Selected coverage is incomplete; no duplicate, headline-sentiment or trial-only credits were added. |
| 2026-10-01 | 33.81 | -0.170 | Reviewed 1 October 2026: EIA Brent spot rose from $113.96 to $115.91 per barrel at the 30 September close; WTI rose from $96.16 to $97.18 (context only). Only the fixed Brent term changes. OPEC annual crude reserves (1,572.46 billion barrels) and production (74.85 million barrels/day) and the IEA 25% projected 2035 copper gap were reverified unchanged. Indexed IRENA material corroborated 5,149 GW but direct retrieval failed; its earlier full-page review date is retained. IMO lists 88 incidents as of 30 September; no qualifying conflict or seven-day route change was established. FDA pediatric Camzyos is an existing mechanism/condition expansion; BIVIGAM/ASCENIV supplements change specifications. EMA updates and an indexed primary mouse gene-delivery abstract produced no qualifying research event. UN detailed retrieval and direct Nature article access failed. Selected coverage is incomplete; no event credits or reversals were added. |
| 2026-09-30 | 33.98 | +0.520 | Reviewed 30 September 2026: EIA Brent spot fell from $119.97 to $113.96 per barrel at the 29 September close; WTI spot fell from $99.37 to $96.16 (context only). Only the fixed Brent price term changes. OPEC annual reserves and crude production were reverified unchanged. IMO now lists 86 incidents as of 29 September, including a pre-baseline 28 September incident; no qualifying route or conflict event was verified. FDA, EMA and two primary Parkinson’s/Crohn’s papers were screened without a qualifying scored achievement or withdrawal. IRENA retrieval failed; the IEA executive summary did not expose the retained 25% copper figure and its PDF failed. UN index opened but linked detailed coverage failed. Retained values keep their earlier review dates. Selected coverage is incomplete; no headline sentiment or duplicate event points were added. |
| 2026-09-29 | 33.46 | Baseline | Reviewed 29 September 2026: EIA Brent spot rose from $116.01 to $119.97 per barrel at the 28 September close; this alone lowers the daily score by 0.341 points. WTI spot updated to $99.37 as context. OPEC annual reserves and production and the IEA copper scenario were rechecked unchanged. FDA, EMA and IMO sources were scanned; no qualifying post-baseline event was verified. IRENA retrieval failed (403); its dated value is retained. UN retrieval and wider research search coverage were incomplete. This is a same-day update to the initial baseline calculation, not a previous-day comparison. |
Only actual calculations are recorded. There is no backfilled daily history. Same-day corrections replace that day’s public row and are documented in the review log.
Formula, thresholds & limitations
Model daily-v1 is an editorial experiment, not a validated civilization measurement. Baseline 33.8 comes from Civilization Index v25; original model snapshot 22 September 2026. Comparison inputs were frozen on 2026-09-29 UTC. The baseline does not claim conditions that day were good or neutral.
Daily score = baseline + geopolitics + resources + research + oil-price contribution, bounded to 0–100. Each contribution is bounded to −2.5 to +2.5 points. Equal caps are editorial choices, not empirically estimated effects. The model does not establish causality, forecast crises, or represent all countries equally.
- Oil: −2.5 × clamp((Brent / baseline Brent − 1) / 0.25). A 25% spot-price rise reaches the negative cap; a 25% decline reaches the positive cap. This reflects importer affordability only. Falling prices can also signal recession or hurt producers; it is not an environmental score.
- Resources: 2.5 × the mean of three clamped changes: renewable capacity growth / 20%; proven crude reserve growth / 10%; and the reduction in projected copper deficit / 10 percentage points. Reference values: 5149 GW, 1572.46 billion barrels and 25%. Higher reserves mean a larger reported supply buffer in this narrow model, not permission to burn them or evidence of sustainability. Scenario revisions can move this component without new physical capacity.
- Geopolitics: 2.5 × clamp(sum of qualifying event units). A verified new interstate conflict or sustained closure of a major energy/trade route contributes −0.25 units; a verified conflict ending or sustained reopening contributes +0.25. Implementation must be confirmed for at least seven days; promises, individual attacks and duplicate reports receive no points. A reversal of a post-baseline event cancels its effect rather than earning a second bonus.
- Research: 2.5 × clamp(sum of qualifying event units). A first regulatory approval of a new therapeutic mechanism for a specified indication contributes +0.25; an independently replicated capability milestone +0.125. Withdrawal or retraction reverses that credit. Before-baseline withdrawals can contribute −0.25 or −0.125. Preprints, announcements, trial starts and unreplicated results receive zero. These are selected events, not a count of all science.
Here clamp limits a value to −1…+1. Events do not accumulate again each day or automatically expire. Corrections and reversals are logged. Sources and populations must remain comparable. Missing sources retain their last observation and its date; a repeated date is not new evidence.
Original milestone scores, the Progress Scale, human dimensions and learning proposals are separate. Research already reflected in a structural-score revision must not also receive a daily bonus; a future baseline reset requires a versioned explanation. This daily view is educational, not medical or investment advice.
